had my favorite koi jump out of pond and when i found him, i put him back in the pond . I noticed he had lost quite a lot of his scales. he does not want te eat and does not swim with the other fish. will buying the koi scale medication save him,or is their not really anything i can do except pray for him?

Answer:

When a fish has leapt from the pond, and flopped around, you're lucky to find them in time and return them to the water for them to live. Afterward, the big problem is infection. The reason infections are so common is because of the stress (which makes the fish vulnerable to infection.)

The best management of these guys is MINIMAL HANDLING Then feed them medicated food. MediKoi is pretty darn good, none better. If the fish won't eat, then a shot of antibiotics, or a dip in Tricide is a good second choice. And past that, prayer IS the next thing to do. You'd be surprised how many fish can be saved by sensible medication, and a good dose of faith.
